How I began my journey to discover and record sounds I never thought I'd experience in a lifetime.

I was offered my first job recording animal sounds with no experience over a phone call by Al Nelson from Skywalker Ranch. It was a surprise to receive the call, as I had never worked in the field before and had no professional experience with recording animal sounds. However, Al was confident in my abilities and offered me the job on the spot. I was excited and grateful for the opportunity, and I accepted the offer without hesitation. From there, I began my journey as a professional animal field recorder, learning on the job and gaining valuable experience as I worked remotely.

My First Trip Ever

It was a beautiful early morning when I was sent out to record alligator sounds at a local animal rescue. I had been waiting for this opportunity for a while, and I was eager to get started. As I approached the enclosure, I could see the alligators sunning themselves on the banks of the pond. I set up my recording equipment and waited patiently for them to make a noise. After a while, I began to get a little discouraged. It seemed like they were completely uninterested in making any sounds. But then, suddenly, one of the alligators let out a deep, guttural growl. It was an exhilarating moment, and I knew that this was going to be an unforgettable experience. I spent the rest of the morning recording the alligators as they moved about the enclosure, making all kinds of interesting sounds. It was truly an amazing experience, and one that I will never forget.After that incredible moment of recording the alligator's growl, I realized that I had awoken a new passion for recording the sounds of animals. I had always been fascinated by the natural world, but this was the first time that I had the opportunity to capture the sounds of wild animals in such a raw and intimate way. I was captivated by the idea of being able to bring these sounds to life for others to hear, and I was determined to continue exploring this new passion. Over the next few weeks and, I spent as much time as I could recording the sounds of different animals at the rescue center upon Al Nelson's request. I was constantly amazed by the variety of noises that they made, and I was always eager to capture as many of them as possible. As I continued to develop my skills and learn more about the art of recording animal sounds, I knew that I had found my hobby. I was excited to see where this new passion would take me, and I knew that I would always treasure the memories of that first exhilarating experience recording alligator sounds.
